History of Quemahoning Dam

These pictures are postcards that Mr. Dwight Hostetler kindly posted on The Somerset County Chamber of Commerce site in reference to the Quemahoning Dam.
Quemahoning Dam construction shown on postcard issued 1917
On November 17, 1910 the waters of Quemahoning Creek were appropriated by the Manufacturers Water Company,a subsidiary of Bethlehem Steel,  and the construction of the Quemahoning Dam was started. The dam and the 66-inch pipe line were completed in 1913
The date seen on the postcard was the year the postcard was issued.

In 1922 Qemahoming Dam was the largest dam in the state of Pennsylvania

The reservoir is said to cover the old Indian village Kickenapauling's Town.  Please visit Quemahoning Township website for more photo's and details.
